History of competition

The UEFA Euro Championship is a football competitions between the Men's senior National Teams of European countries. This competition started in 1960 and from that on, it is held every 4 years in a different host country (or countries).

The first tournament was held in France and it was won by Soviet Union in the final in Paris. Through the times the tournament structure has suffered several changes in order to increase the number of participants, which started only with 4 teams in the first years, and currently has 24 national teams competing with each other.

The winner team receives the UEFA European cup which is also called Henri Delaunay Trophy named in honor to Henri Delaunay who was a former French football player that became a referee and one of the first people to dream about and European Football Tournament, proposed it for the first time in 1927.
